The Basics of Jump-Starting Car Batteries
These work by using a special high-current Lithium-Ion battery that will provide sufficient power to start your vehicle’s engine. These batteries are typically rechargeable, and newer products should not need a recharge for at least a year unless they have been used multiple times. They can jump-start multiple vehicles using a single charge, and some models can act as a portable power bank that will be able to charge and power your devices such as tablets and smartphones. Most portable jump starters are designed to start a drained battery in both gas and diesel-powered cars and light-duty trucks that refuse to start due to cold temperatures, the lights being left on, or they haven’t been driven for quite some time.
How to Use a Jump Starter
How you use a portable jump starter typically depends on the model you use. So make sure that you always read the manufacturer’s instructions beforehand.
How to Jump Start Your Vehicle Using the Direct-To-Battery Method

Clamp the jumper cables to the battery terminals, do the red to the positive, and the black to the negative.

Connect the jump cable to the jump starter.

Wait for the green LED to light up, and then try to start your vehicle.

Once your vehicle has been started, disconnect the jumper cable from the jump starter and then from the battery.
You should note though, that, if the vehicle fails to start after several attempts, your jump starter could cease to work, or, may go into “recovery mode”. This prevents the battery from overheating. This typically happens when the vehicle battery is too drained to be able to be jump-started.
