Do You Need to Replace Your Car Battery? These Signs Will Tell You
Many people don’t really pay much attention to their car battery until it dies in the middle of their commute and they need to call an emergency battery jumper expert. But, as a car owner, you actually shouldn’t wait for this to happen! To avoid getting stranded in the middle of nowhere, you should watch out for signs that your battery is dying and replace it ASAP. We’ve listed below some of the signs that you must watch out for:
Dim lights
Unless you intentionally have them dimmed, your headlights and taillights should always be at full power when you turn them on. If you notice that your car lights have become dimmer than normal, have them checked to see if the light bulbs or their wiring have any issues. If they’re in good condition, the problem most likely lies in your car battery.
A slower engine start time
Observe your engine when you turn on the ignition. Does it start right away, or do you have to wait for several seconds before your car comes to life? If it’s the latter, you should consider replacing your car battery. Old and dying batteries often have worn-out components that are no longer as efficient as they used to be, which is why it takes them longer than normal to create a charge for the engine’s starter.
Corroded terminals
Take the time to check the terminals in your car battery. If they’re covered in an ash-like substance that’s white or blue in color, it’s a sign that they’re starting to corrode, which can pave the way to voltage problems and eventually prevent your car engine from starting properly. You can try to remove terminal corrosion but, if the buildup is difficult to clean off or if the corrosion occurred due to a battery fluid leak, it’s probably the right time for a battery replacement.
