Here’s How You Can Keep Your Car Battery in Good Condition
It’s recommended to replace your car battery every three to four years to protect your vehicle from electrical problems. However, this doesn’t mean that you should just do nothing until it’s time for a mobile battery replacement! To get your money’s worth and avoid issues while on the road, you must take good care of your car battery and make it last for as long as possible. Here are some tips that you can use:
Ensure that the battery is securely attached
If your battery isn’t properly positioned in the mounting bracket, it can vibrate as you go along your commute. The vibrations can cause the battery to develop internal damage and lead the way to short circuits, both of which can affect its overall performance and shorten its lifespan. Because of this, you must check the battery at least once a month to ensure that it’s securely attached to the mounting bracket.
Avoid short rides
These can prevent your car battery from fully charging, which will eventually prevent it from functioning optimally. Because of this, you must frequently use your vehicle (instead of letting it sit in your garage for days or weeks) and make it a point to drive your car for extended periods of time.
Clean up corrosion
Battery terminals can corrode over time, but the good news is that you can remove the corrosion buildup to help your car battery last longer. Simply get an old toothbrush, dip it into a mixture of water and baking soda, then use it to scrub the terminals and remove the corrosion. Next, fill a spray bottle with cold water and use it to rinse off the mixture. Make sure to dry the terminals thoroughly with a clean cloth!
Follow these tips to keep your car battery in good condition and make it last longer.
